Geography

Prague is the Czech Republic's capital and biggest city, as well as the historical capital of Bohemia. Perched on the Vltava River, it is home to over 1.3 million people. The climate in Prague varies greatly between seasons. In the winter, the weather is often warm to chilly, with little sunlight. Summer temperatures may reach 35 degrees Celsius, although the heat is regularly tempered by brief thunderstorms. Spring and early autumn are the ideal seasons to visit Prague since the weather is pleasant and there are fewer tourists around during those periods.

Culture

Prague's earliest immigrants came in the second part of the ninth century. The Vltava area served as a common commercial route between northern and southern Europe. In the 14th century, Prague was an important European city. Throughout the year, it offers several cultural events and festivals at theatres and museums.

Things To Do in Prague

Take a walk in Wenceslas Square

No matter where you enter the rectangular area, the colossal monument of St. Wenceslas is difficult to overlook. This place, shown riding a horse, has drawn and continues to attract hordes of individuals involved in civil disobedience and public protest. Some of the tales are also extremely frightening. When Czechoslovakia gained independence in 1989, for example, everyone gathered in the plaza and jingled their keys in the air to urge the Communist authorities to depart. Enjoy the sunrise or sunset at Charles Bridge

Go to Charles Bridge early in the morning or late at night when it is almost empty. Several stories say that people polished the plaques under his star-crowned portrait until the carved woman and dog looked like they were made of gold. This bridge was formerly used by royalty to transport monarchs to their coronations. However, since there is no longer any royalty, the population has increased. Depending on the time of day, you may see jewellery booths and caricature artists attempting to sell their products. You may also climb the bridge towers for a little price to gain a better view of the region.

Watch a theatre performance in the Jára Cimrman theatre

If you like dark and harsh comedy and are not easily offended, we suggest seeing a performance at the Jára Cimrman theatre. Some of the country's finest plays are shown here, but with a twist. While this may be a difficult task for many, the fantastic artists here execute it with a mischievous smile on their faces. Many performances in this city tell bold stories about the'most intriguing guy in the world.' Please keep in mind that tickets for the concerts are available in both English and Czech. Therefore, double-check your tickets before purchasing them to guarantee you will attend a show in the language you are most familiar with.

Eating Out in Prague

If you're interested in old-school cooking recipes, we strongly suggest splurging on the Michelin-starred dinner at La Dégustation Bohême Bourgeoise. This high-end eating establishment features a multi-course meal, with each course matched with delectable beers, wines, and fruit juices. Because it is so popular, we suggest making a reservation in advance. Kantyna, which is built in a historic bank building, serves a range of meats. To avoid the crowds, make a reservation for dinner here between Monday and Wednesday. Another traditional restaurant with magnificent decor, armoury, and sumptuous furnishings is U Modré kachniky. This restaurant delivers 5-7 course tasting menus with a selection of duck and game meats before concluding on a sweet note with chocolate cake or a pancake drenched in Grand Marnier. While an a la carte menu is available, we suggest that first-timers go for the 7-course package. Terasa U Zlaté Studn, located at the Golden Well Hotel, is one of our favourite haunts, offering visitors not only a gastronomical experience but also a spectacular perspective of the city. This restaurant is best visited around sunset, when you can enjoy wonderful meals and a drink or two.

Airport

The main airport serving the city of Prague is Václav Havel Airport Prague (PRG). Founded in 1937, it is located approximately 7 miles (12 km) from the city centre.

Getting Around Prague

Prague has an extensive public transportation system that includes the metro, trams, buses, ferries, and taxis (stand-alone and app-based too). Tickets bought for the tram or metro may also be used for buses. Please keep in mind that trams only accept contactless or debit card payments. If you purchase your bus ticket straight from the driver, it may be more expensive. The Funicular, which takes people up the hills between 9 a.m. and 11.30 p.m., is a unique feature of Prague. While these types of public transit are ideal for lone travellers, those travelling in groups typically opt to hire a car for the comfort and flexibility it offers.
