Geography

It is located on the Dalmatian coast of the Adriatic Sea, in the northwestern part of the Ravni Kotari region. Zadar is the county seat of Zadar County as well as the northern Dalmatian region.

Climate in Zadar

Zadar has a Mediterranean climate, with moderate, wet winters and hot, sunny summers. The months of May and September are ideal for visiting Zadar. The weather in June is usually pleasant, although it may become hot at times, particularly in the second half of the month. The finest months to visit the beach are July and August. The water is still a touch cold in June.

Culture

There are several Roman and mediaeval ruins to be found in Zadar, along with some of the most contemporary architectural designs in the Adriatic. Visit the Church of St. Donatus

The Church of St. Donatus is one of the city's most important historic sites. It is built in the style of Byzantine architecture typical in Dalmatia. It was named after the Holy Trinity in the 9th century. This architectural masterpiece is well-known for its distinctive circular shape, which is flanked by three circular apses. The structure retains many of the original elements, including two of the supporting pillars that were erected on top of the ancient Roman forum. The church floor was lifted to highlight the amazing craftsmanship, and many of the stones used to construct this church were taken from the Roman Forum.

Get enthralled by the Sea Organ and Greeting to the Sun

Zadar's iconic Sea Organ was built on the beachfront in 2005. It is currently regarded as one of the best art projects in the nation and a must-see attraction. The motion of the waves creates a massive musical instrument. An interesting mechanism is made up of a network of underwater tubes that drop into the sea under the marble stairs. With each splash of the wave, each tube emits a distinct tone, and collectively they form a fascinating symphony and a bizarre experience. Another must-see location close is Greeting to the Sun. Its pristine circular arrangement is made up of 300 multi-layered glass panels and solar cells. These cells and plates light up at night and create an incredible atmosphere.

The major city beach is Kolovare Beach. It is a picturesque 10-minute stroll from the ancient town. The beach boasts beautiful pure blue water with a mixture of sand and rocks. Getting Around Zadar

In Zadar, the sole mode of public transportation is buses. Liburnija, Zadar's local bus operator, manages the local bus routes. It connects the bus terminal to the town centre and all of the suburbs. Buses run frequently from the Old Town. A bus ticket costs around 10Kn and may be bought on the bus or at a kiosk.
