Geography

Novi Travnik is both a town and a municipality in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is in the Central Bosnia Canton. It is surrounded by the cities of Sarajevo, Turbe, and Vitez and is landlocked.

The months of May, June, and September are ideal for visiting the Novi Travnik regions. The weather is pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 20°C (68°F) to 26°C (79°F). The winters are harsh and cold, with temperatures as low as 4 °C (39 °F) in January, while August is the hottest month, with an average temperature of 27 °C (81 °F).

Culture

The old town of Novi Travnik is thought to have been built to house King Tvrtko II Kotromani and Stjepan Dabia. According to records, it was founded in 1464 when Ottoman troops decided to settle here during their conquest of Jajce. In 1949, the town was used to house workers for the MMK Bratsvo factory, which greatly aided the town's economy. It was nearly destroyed in a Serbian air attack in 1994. Today, Novi Travnik, as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina, are well-known for their shoe production.

Visit the fairytale town of Jajce

From a distance, Jajce may appear to be a well-known tourist destination. On the contrary, it receives very little traffic and, despite UNESCO's efforts to promote tourism in the region, few people visit. With its beautiful architecture and nearby Pilva waterfalls and lakes, this town is straight out of a fairytale. The Jajaki Mithraeum, a temple from the second century, is the city's oldest structure. It was constructed to honour Mithra, the Persian God of the Sun. The town also has catacombs, which are said to be the work of a 14th-century prince who wanted a tomb for himself and his family. History buffs will enjoy the museum, which depicts how the communist council here fought the forces of dictatorship that swept over the region during WWII. If you enjoy history and want to see some ruins, go to Komotin Castle in Jajce. It was built in the 14th century and is situated on a steep hill. During its time, it was said to be impenetrable. It was also well-defended due to its high altitude and the fact that it was surrounded on all sides by deep trenches. However, only the castle's ruins remain, telling the story of the castle's past.

Pay your respects at a WWII memorial

While it may not be for everyone, those who wish to can pay their respects to the victims of WWII at the Necropolis of the Victims of Fascism. This one-of-a-kind monument was built in 1975 on the outskirts of Novi Travnik. One of Bogdan Bogdanovi's twenty-one monuments in the former Yugoslavia, the structure dates back to 1975 and features a stepped approach, a hillock with surrounding landscape, and a collection of twelve sculptures. The memorial's inspiration came from the interplay between the surrounding landscape and the architect's creative vision. The distances between sculptures range from two to three metres; they are placed in pairs to form two asymmetrical rows. It is not only one of the most popular attractions in the area, but it is also a national monument.

The main airport serving the town of Novi Travnik is Sarajevo International Airport (SJJ), which is about 56 miles (91.1 km) away.

Buses and taxis are the primary modes of public transportation in Novi Travnik. Taxis, on the other hand, may be more expensive than buses. While solo travellers prefer buses, people travelling in larger groups prefer to hire a vehicle in town. This is especially so in the case of those travelling with children, a lot of luggage, or with elderly as having your own car gives you the flexibility to make multiple stops wherever you need at any point in time.
