Getting to Knock Airport

When you’re driving to Knock Airport, it’s good to know it’s easy to get to and luckily that’s the case.

From Castlebar, drive along the N5 West in the direction of Claremoris and continue onto the N17 towards Galway. Next, take the N59 towards Knock, follow the airport signs and you’ll be there in roughly half an hour (depending on traffic).

Rolling in from Westport? Take the N17 East to Claremorris and continue onto the N59 towards Knock. Follow the airport signs and you should get there in around 45 minutes, traffic permitting.

When you’re driving in from Ballina, take the trusty N59 towards Knock and follow the airport signs – you should be there in under one hour.

Driving from Sligo? Take the N15 South towards Castlebar then continue on to the N5 West towards Claremorris and take the exit for the N59 to Knock. If the traffic’s fair, you’ll get there in approximately an hour and 20 minutes.

Facilities at Knock Airport

Knock Airport isn’t exactly Europe’s biggest, but its pre-flight facilities and amenities are still very good.

For instance, if you want a bit of peace and quiet away from the main concourse, there’s a relaxing airport lounge with comfy seats, quality refreshments and the latest newspapers.

There are plenty of rest rooms to meet your needs when nature calls, you’ll find a currency exchange to swap your Euros for something a little different and there are plenty of ATMs in the terminal to draw cash.

Travelling with a tot? Baby changing facilities are available in the terminal and they’re very well appointed. And last but not least, there’s a pet relief area at Knock Airport, just outside the terminal building.

How about food and drink at NOC? You can grab beers, wines, spirits, pasta, salads, sandwiches and a great Irish breakfast at Slainte Restaurant and Bar, and sandwiches, coffee and pastries complemented by runway views at Caffe le Chieile.

For something international, The Gate Restaurant has Indian, Italian and Mexican food, as well as a well-stocked bar, and the Duty Free Food Court has a little bit of everything, from pasta, pizza and burgers to alcohol from around the world.

And there are a select few shops at Knock Airport that are good quality. For starters, ShopWest is the main shopping outlet and it’s located airside (only accessible to outgoing passengers). Here, you’ll find electronics, designer perfumes and aftershaves, jewellery, handmade chocolates, fine whiskeys and Guinness apparel. If you’re looking for something exciting to read on the plane (or the beach), XL Newspapers is on the main concourse and it sells lotto tickets, snacks and drinks, and travel essentials (as well as paperbacks and magazines). And if you’re a Knock Shrine fan, there’s a shop located landside with all your souvenirs, keepsakes and memorabilia.

There are lots of excellent establishment to choose from. For starters, the Knock House Hotel is a highly rated 4-star establishment 2.5 km from the airport. It has a bar, restaurant and fitness centre and the comfy rooms have flat screen TVs and free Wi-Fi.

Alternatively, the McWilliam Park Hotel is another 4-star hotspot 5km from the airport and it has a sauna, steam room and swimming room. The rooms are pretty plush as well!
