About Vancouver

Comprised of a constellation of neighborhoods which each have their own distinct ambience, Vancouver is a delight to visit any time of year. Downtown is the heart of the city and it’s full of dramatic skyscrapers, swish bars and restaurants, and cultural magnets like the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Meanwhile, Gastown is a resurgent neighborhood packed with hip independent bars, cafes and boutiques, and Yaletown is another fashionable district where you can order a cocktail and watch the yachts sailing by the waterfront. But that’s not all, because in Chinatown you can sample some of the finest Asian cuisine this side of Beijing, and Sunset Beach is one of the world’s best spots to pack a picnic and watch the sun go down as you sip a drink with someone special. This is a contemporary city with an unmistakable village feel and wherever you roam during your stay, you’re guaranteed a warm welcome.

Mountains

If you like holidaying where the air is rarefied, Vancouver’s North Shore Mountains are located across the Burrard Inlet in North Vancouver – you can sample Alpine ambience here just a short hop from the urban sprawl. Grouse Mountain is the local favorite and if you’re feeling fit you can take on the Grouse Grind – a 3km trek that takes you 853m up the mountainside past some spectacular scenery! There’s also a ski area here and if you’re a confident skier there’s some of the best night skiing available anywhere. Furthermore, this is also an area rich in Indigenous history and culture and at the annual Indigenous History Month held each June, you can see traditional activities like arm canoe paddling, gaze in wonder at the intricate totem poles and sculptures and learn more about the First Nations, Metis and Inuit peoples who are the traditional guardians of this land.

Ocean

The romantic North Pacific is on your doorstep in Vancouver and it offers many exciting opportunities for visitors. For starters, you can take a whale watching tour from boats that run regularly from downtown and in areas like the Strait of Georgia you can see species like Humpback and Killer Whales breach the water spectacularly. There are also very cool aqua buses which whizz you around False Creek – hop on one to the Granville Island Market to pick up unique local crafts and foods. Meanwhile, if you’re feeling more energetic, stretch your muscles and see the area from a unique vantage point by kayaking in Deep Cove.
